Call for Papers

In the near future, Grid systems are expected to connect large number of heterogeneous resources (PC, Data-bases, HPC clusters, instruments, visualization tools, etc.), to be used by many users (in the range of millions) and to execute a large variety of applications (number crunching, data access, multimedia, etc).

Fundamentally, Grid are distributed systems and like for them, the notion of Large Scale raises many novel issues in security, trust, fairness, accessibility, algorithm scalability, fault tolerance, etc.

This special issue aims at gathering papers in the fields of Grid, Database, Distributed systems, Networking. This special issue is open for contributions in connected fields: P2P systems, Sensors Networks, Networking, Large Scale Heterogeneous Distributed databases. By this way, we expect to be able to confront concepts of these various areas and investigate which ones may present mutual interest for the different communities. The "traditional" Grid community has up to now developed environments based on `in-house' ideas and skills (Globus, Unicore, etc.), with little attention to sibling communities. The challenges set by "large-scale" use of Grids will necessarily demand importing ideas from other technologies, in the first place peer-to-peer approaches, and component- based software engineering as mentioned previosly.

Research in Large Scale distributed systems requires a new methodology since most of the past work have not investigated the impact of Large Scale notions on algorithms and applications. So, new tools, benchmarks and use cases have to be investigated.

For instance, several tools are emerging like large experimental testbeds. Outdoor platforms such as Planet-Lab, Grid5000 (in France), and indoor platforms such as Emulab (USA), AIST SuperCluster (Japan) and Grid eXplorer (France) are some of the new tools proposed for investigating research challenge in Large Scale distributed systems. Since, these tools are essential in the evaluation of concepts and technologies for Large Scale Grid, the meeting will especially appreciate submission in this area.

Paper Submission

We invite authors to submit original and unpublished work. Papers will be reviewed by three reviewers. We inform authors that papers without evaluation (either theoretical or experimental) will not be considered. In other words, papers should be more than 'position papers'.

The authors will be required to prepare their manuscripts according to Elsevier style file that can be downloaded from the following site (then click on "Guide to publishing with Elsevier" - Please use elsart.cls style file, 11pt font fize and single column). For LATEX2E, figures must be prepared in PostScript and appropriately incorporated into the text.

The paper length is not more than 12 pages. Authors should submit a PostScript or PDF file that will print on a PostScript printer.

Please email your paper before June 30, 2006 July 7, 2006 to christophe.cerin@lipn.univ-paris13.fr, which is the preferred method for submission. Put "PARCO submission" in the subject of the email. The author notification of acceptance is August 30, 2006.
